USC Institute for Global Health
The
USC
Institute for Global
Health (IGH) seeks "to improve global health by educating future and current global health leaders." The Institute encourages learning about the causes of global diseases, acting to treat current diseases and prevent future outbreaks, and sharing information with the aim of improving global health overall. Citrus was selected to redesign this important institution's online presence, as well as provide integrated content management functionality.
Citrus' design is bold and dynamic, and seeks to convey the Institute's important role in the world. USC's signature colors lend context, but do not detract from IGH's significance as its own unique entity. Recurring design motifs and contextual navigational elements ensure usability, accessibility, and style.
The IGH site is designed to be engaging. As opposed to a basic brochure-type site, Citrus and IGH sought to develop a compelling--and very useful--online resource.
Calendaring functionality enables visitors to search for events, and then RSVP online for those that they wish to attend. The calendar is integrated with USC's general events management system, ensuring efficient and accurate scheduling. A "Featured Events" section allows IGH to highlight events of particular interest or importance.
The
Research
and Service Map is a compelling feature unto itself. This interactive map--developed by Citrus using Microsoft Bing technology--provides a geographical view of IGH's projects worldwide. Navigating the globe--or USC's campuses--in their choice of two or three dimensions, visitors can identify projects by various criteria, and then explore additional projects underway in the selected region.
Content management is handled by Sitecore, an enterprise-level system recommended by Citrus. Sitecore was selected for its ability to seamlessly scale with IGH's current and future online needs. Ease of use belies Sitecore's sophistication: non-technical IGH staff members are able to update the site as needed with ease. Even the home page Flash content--typically not accessible through traditional content management systems--can be updated using Sitecore.
